Overview

Fixes for the WebSphere Application Server V6 for OS/400 product are delivered through a fix pack included in the WAS for OS/400 group PTF. There is one group PTF for all WAS V6 products for each supported OS/400 release.

Load and apply the latest the WAS V6 for OS/400 group PTF before you start WAS for the first time.

This fix pack includes group PTFs for...

This fix pack also contains PTFs for...

See the PTFs page on the WAS Web site to determine which group PTF order and install for your WAS edition and for your OS/400 release level.

Because some of these PTFs may require a restart of your iSeries server, the instructions include steps for placing the server in a restricted state and doing the IPL of the server. Do not attempt to start or use WAS until all of the PTFs have been successfully loaded and applied.

Procedure

  1. Verify that all of the prerequisite software is installed.

  2. Place the WebSphere for iSeries group PTF CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive on your iSeries server.

  3. Sign on to your server. Your user profile must have *ALLOBJ and *SECADM special authorities.

  4. Enter this command to bring your system into a restricted state:
    ENDSBS SBS(*ALL)

  5. Enter this command from the CL command line when the system is in a restricted state:
    GO PTF

  6. Select option 8 (Install program temporary fix package) from the menu.

  7. Specify these parameter values and press Enter:

Device Device name of the CD-ROM drive, for example, OPT01
    Automatic IPL Y
    PTF type 1 (All PTFs)

If it is not convenient to restart your server, specify No for Automatic IPL. Any PTFs that require an IPL are applied at the next normal IPL of the server. However, do not attempt to start or use WAS until all of the PTFs have been successfully loaded and applied.

After all of the PTFs are installed, your iSeries server restarts, unless you specify No for Automatic IPL.

  8. When you install the group PTF, the latest fix pack is placed in the WAS installation directory. Install the fix pack, run...

    /QIBM/ProdData/WebSphere/AppServer/V6/Base/updateinstaller/update

Fix pack installation instructions are also included in the group PTF information file.

  9. After you have installed the group PTF, see WAS release notes for information about the release, including a description of known problems and workarounds.
