Install and starting the IBM Support Assistant

The IBM Support Assistant helps you to investigate and resolve problems without having to contact IBM support. The assistant can also open problem records with IBM.

I5/OS|The IBM Support Assistant (ISA) is not supported. You can install the ISA on a remote Windows work station in accordance with the preceding steps. This will enable you to access the Search, Education, and Support Links functionality. However the Collector feature under Service will not work as ISA will not be installed on the local machine. You are still able to use the Electronic Service Request (ESR) feature to open and manage PMRs. Refer to WebSphere support.

To install the IBM Support Assistant...

  1. Download and install the Support Assistant by following instructions provided at Utility: IBM Support Assistant V3.0 - A new support tool to improve your productivity.

  2. Open the Support Assistant.

  3. From the Welcome page, click Updater.

  4. From the page that opens, click New Products and Tools.

  5. Expand the Websphere folder and select Plugin for WebSphere Commerce 6.0 or Plugin for WebSphere Commerce Developer 6.0.

  6. Click Install.

    The ISA must be installed on the same machine as WebSphere Commerce


To start the Support Assistant, complete the following steps on the machine where you have installed the ISA:

  1. Start the Support Assistant

    AIX|Linux|Solaris|

    1. Ensure that you have XWindows Graphical Environment setup.

    2. Navigate to your ISA install directory.

    3. Run the following command: ./startisa.sh

    4. A Web browser will launch automatically.

    Windows:

    1. Click Start > Programs > IBM Support Assistant > IBM Support Assistant v3

  2. Select the desired functionality in the GUI.
