Join communities

To find a community to join, we can browse the Public Communities view, or use suggestions from the Recommendations widget. You must be logged in to join a community.

We can join public communities by clicking a link, but we must request to join moderated public communities. Restricted communities are private and they do not display in the Public Communities view. The only way to join this type of community is when a community owner adds you as a member or invites you to join. To identify community owners, click Members in the navigation and then select Owners in the Filter by field.

If the community allows moderated access, select...

Request to Join this Community

Type the reason for wanting to join the community and click Send. The request is sent to the community owner, who can then decide whether or not to add you to the community. If they add you as a member, you receive an email notification to that effect.

When you join a public community, the community is immediately added to the list of the communities in the "I’m a Member" view. When you request to join a moderated community, the community does not display in the I’m a Member view until the membership is approved by the community owner.
