Creating and installing customized packages
Use the IBM Installation Factory for WebSphere Extended Deployment to create a customized installation package (CIP) or an integrated installation package (IIP). A CIP contains a single product installation package and various optional assets. An IIP combines one or more installation packages into a single installation workflow that you design.
Before you begin
Before you create and install customized packages for WebSphere® Extended Deployment, first download the IBM® Installation Factory for WebSphere Application Server from the Installation Factory for WebSphere Application Server Web site.For more information about the Installation Factory for WebSphere Application Server, see Getting started with the Installation Factory .
About this task
Use the Installation Factory, you create a CIP by combining a single product component with maintenance packages, customization scripts, and other files. When you create an IIP, you aggregate individual components, or installation packages, into a single installation package.
Procedure
- Download the Installation Factory for WebSphere Extended Deployment. See the Installation Factory for WebSphere Extended Deployment Web site for more information.
- Prepare your environment to support a customized product installation. See Planning the installation for more information.
- To install a CIP, create a build definition file that generates the customized package. The Installation Factory uses the build definition file, which is an XML document, to generate the CIP. See Creating and installing a CIP for more information.
- To install an IIP, create a build definition file that generates the customized package. The Installation Factory uses the build definition file to generate the IIP. See Creating and installing an IIP for more information.
