Install DB2 Universal Database on Windows

  1. Review the hardware and software requirements.

  2. Prepare the Windows OS

  4. Log in as a local administrator. The ID must be 12 characters or less and have the appropriate access permissions. Do not log in using a domain administrator ID.

  5. Insert CDSetup into your CD-ROM drive and run...

    install.bat

  6. Select the language for the install program and click OK.

  7. If you would like to view the InfoCenter, click Launch InfoCenter. This will copy the InfoCenter to your local drive and open it in a Web browser. When you exit the install program, the InfoCenter will be removed from your drive. Click Next.

  8. Review the license agreement and select I accept the terms in the license agreement. If you do not accept the terms, the install program will close. Click Next.

  9. Select Component Install and click Next. To learn more about the Basic or Component Install, click the help button.

  10. Select DB2 Universal Database Workgroup V8.1.6 from the component selection list. Click Next.

  11. If you are using CDs, the install program will prompt for the CD that contains DB2 Universal Database. Insert the CD when prompted and click Next. If you are working from CD images on a network drive, the DB2 install program will open.

  12. Click Installation Prerequisites to review the requirements for DB2. Close the browser when you are finished.

  13. Click Install Products.

  14. Click Next on the product selection panel.

  15. Click Next on the welcome panel.

  16. Review the license agreement and select I accept the terms in the license agreement. If you do not accept the terms, the install program will close. Click Next.

  17. Select Typical as the installation type. Click Next.

  18. Select the Drive and change the Directory location if needed. Click Next.

  19. Enter the DB2 Administrator User name and Password. This should be a local user. Click Next.

    Note: The install program will create the local user if the user does not already exist.

  20. Specify the contact list that DB2 should use to send messages when the database server requires attention.

    Note: You can change this configuration after completing the install.

  21. If you did not configure an SMTP server, you will see an error message. Click OK if you do not want to setup the SMTP server. Click Cancel to go back and setup the SMTP server.

  22. If you want to review or modify the default protocols, click Protocols. If you want to review or modify startup options, click Startup. Click Next.

  23. Select Do not prepare DB2 tools catalog, and click Next.

  24. Enter the administration contact information. Click Next.

  25. Click Install to start copying files.

  26. Click Finish to exit the DB2 install program. DB2 Universal Database First Steps interface will open. When you are finished reviewing First Steps, click Exit First Steps.

  27. You will be returned to the WebSphere Everyplace Access install program. If you want to install additional prerequisite software on the current computer, you can continue. If you do not want to install any other prerequisite software on this computer, click Close.

  28. Increase the maximum number of database connections.

    1. Open the DB2 Control Center.

    2. Expand the current node and then Instances.

    3. Select DB2 and on the toolbar click Selected then click Configure Parameters.

    4. Scroll down to the Diagnostic section, select the NOTIFYLEVEL parameter.

    5. Change the NOTIFYLEVEL value to 1 (Errors Only).

    6. Scroll down to the Environment section, select the NUMDB parameter.

    7. Change the NUMDB Value to 25.

    8. Click OK and restart the DB2 instance..

Install DB2 Universal Database on AIX

  1. Review hardware and software requirements

  2. Prepare the AIX operating system

  3. Create database names

  4. Log in as the root user.

  5. Insert CDSetup into your CD-ROM drive. On AIX, mount the CD.

  6. Run the install script.

    install.sh

  7. Select the language for the install program and click OK.

  8. If you would like to view the InfoCenter, click Launch InfoCenter. This will copy the InfoCenter to your local drive and open it in a Web browser. When you exit the install program, the InfoCenter will be removed from your drive. Click Next.

  9. Review the license agreement and select I accept the terms in the license agreement. If you do not accept the terms, the install program will close. Click Next.

  10. Select Component Install and click Next. To learn more about the Basic or Component Install, click the help button.

  11. Select DB2 Universal Database Workgroup V8.1.6 from the component selection list. Click Next.

  12. If you are using CDs, the install program will prompt for the CD that contains DB2 Universal Database. Insert the CD when prompted and click Next. If you are working from CD images on a network drive, the DB2 install program will open.

  13. Click Installation Prerequisites to review the requirements for DB2. Close the browser when you are finished.

  14. Click Install Products.

  15. Click DB2 UDB Workgroup Server Edition on the product selection panel and click Next.

  16. Click Next on the welcome panel.

  17. Review the license agreement and select I accept the terms in the license agreement. If you do not accept the terms, the install program will close. Click Next.

  18. Select Typical installation type and click Next. WebSphere Everyplace Access does not require the data warehousing function.

  19. On the Set user information for the DB2 Administrative server, select New user. If you do not want to use the default user name, enter a custom User name.

  20. Enter the Password and enter it again in the Confirm password field.

  21. Click Next.

  22. On the Set up a DB2 instance panel, select Create a DB2 instance and click Next.

  23. On the Set user information panel, select New user.

  24. Enter the User name for this instance of DB2. The DB2 install program will create this user on the local computer. If this is the first time you are installing DB2, the default user name is db2inst1.

  25. Enter the Password for the user and then enter it again in the Confirm password field.

  26. Edit the Home directory if needed.

  27. Click Next.

  28. Select New user and enter a User name for the fenced user. If you are installing DB2 for the first time, the default user name is db2fenc1.

  29. Enter the Password for the fenced user and then enter it again in the Confirm password field.

  30. Edit the Home directory if needed.

  31. On the Prepare the DB2 tools catalog, select the option you want to use and click Next.

    • If you select Do not prepare the DB2 tools catalog on this computer, you can install the tools later.

    • If you select Use a local database and click Next, you will continue to the Specify a local database panel. Specify a local database to store the tools catalog and click Next.

  32. Setup the administration contact list and click Next. If you deselect SMTP, you will see a pop-up message. Click OK.

  33. Set up an administrator contact for the DB2 health monitor to send notification to. You can select to Defer this task until after the installation is complete. Refer to the DB2 documentation for more information if needed.

  34. Review the current settings information and click Finish to start copying files.

  35. You will see a Summary Report. Verify everything installed successfully and click Finish.

  36. You will be returned to the WebSphere Everyplace Access install program. If you want to install additional prerequisite software on the current computer, you can continue. If you do not want to install any other prerequisite software on this computer, click Close.

  37. Increase the maximum number of database connections.

    1. Open the DB2 Control Center.

    2. Expand the current node and then Instances.

    3. Select DB2 and on the toolbar click Selected then click Configure Parameters.

  38. Perform DB2 configuration steps. The following steps are only required for AIX and correct a shared memory problem between WebSphere Application Server and DB2. You can skip this step if the WebSphere Application Server will not be installed on the same computer as DB2.

    1. Switch to the user instance that contains the WebSphere Portal database. The user_name variable represents the user name you use to install WebSphere Everyplace Access databases, such as db2inst1.
      su - user_name

    2. Edit...

      /home/user_name/.profile

      ...and add the following...

      export EXTSHM=ON

    3. Save your changes.

    4. Open a DB2 command windows and run the following command:
      db2set DB2ENVLIST=EXTSHM

    5. Stop DB2.

      db2stop

    6. Start DB2.

      db2start

Install the DB2 Universal Database Client if you have already installed the DB2 Server on a dedicated computer and need to install the DB2 Client on the WebSphere Everyplace Access server. Installing DB2 Client enables the portal to use the required JDBC drivers. also ensure that the DB2 Client instance is the same name as the server instance.
