Silent installation road maps
Typically, silent installations require three main steps: installing IBM Installation Manager, recording a response file, and then installing the software packages silently. When you install in silent mode, the user interface is not available. The response file provides the input for installation.
There are two routes for completing a silent installation. To find out the route that applies to your installation scenario, see Install using Installation Manager or using the installer .
Installation Manager
Use Installation Manager to install software packages silently:
- Install Installation Manager.
- Record a response file using Installation Manager, or Create a response file manually .
- Create a keyring file to store credentials for authenticating repositories, proxies, and response files stored on protected servers. Keyring files are only necessary when your installation accesses servers that require authentication. If the servers do not require authentication, then you do not need to create a keyring file.
- Run Installation Manager in silent mode . If you have stored credentials for a repository in a keyring file, see Install silently from authenticated repositories with Installation Manager .
installer
Use the installer to install software packages silently:
- Create a response file manually that includes commands to install Installation Manager and other packages.
- Create a keyring file to store credentials for authenticating repositories, proxies, and response files stored on protected servers. Keyring files are only necessary when your installation accesses servers that require authentication. If the servers do not require authentication, then you do not need to create a keyring file.
- Run the Installation Manager installer with the response file.
