Importing a file allows us to upload a document from the computer into Document Manager, as opposed to creating a new file through the Document Manager interface. For example, we can use the import function to upload a document that you worked on outside of the Document Manager environment. After you import a file, other users can download the file to their computers.

  1. Click Import file.

  2. Type the file path in the File field, or click Browse and navigate to the file on the computer.

  3. We can fill out the optional fields and drop-down lists:

    Title

Enter a title for the document, which will appear in the Document Manager document listing instead of the file name.

Do not use double quotes (") in the document title. There are no other restrictions on the characters we can use to create a document title. For example, we can create a title using non-Latin characters such as Japanese and Cyrillic.

    Description

Type a brief description of the file's contents.

    Document Language

Select the document language from the drop-down list.

The default language selection is same as the working document library. The document language parameter is for informational purposes and searches, and does not affect the content of the document. If the language is not listed, we can select Other as an option.

  4. Click...

    Publish

    ...or...

    Submit for Approval

...to import the document from the computer into Document Manager.

Publishing immediately makes the document public, and submitting for approval sends the document to the reviewers.

    Alternatively, we can click...

    Save as Private Draft

...to import the current document and keep it private for further editing.

The options that you see depend on whether the draft approval process is enabled.

Click Cancel to stop the operation. If you choose to cancel, changes are discarded, and the document is not imported.
