Downloading a document

Download a document from Document Manager to the local computer.

We can download a document from Document Manager to our desktop. This function allows us to work with documents on the computer, instead of working within Document Manager. If document locking is enabled, we can avoid edit conflicts by locking the document that you download. Once you have finished working with the document from the computer, replace the document in Document Manager with the updated document on the computer. Use the Replace function to upload our updated document to Document Manager. See Replacing a document for more information.

  1. Click the document name.

  2. Click the More actions button and select Download from the drop-down menu.

  3. Navigate to the local directory where you want to save the document.

  4. Click Save to download the document to your machine, or click Cancel to stop the download and return to the document preview page.

The download function depends on how the browser is configured. To ensure the ability to download documents to the computer, you might need to configure the way the browser handles files. Refer to the Configuring the browser to work with documents topic for more information.

Troubleshooting downloading documents: If you have Service Pack 2 (SP2) installed on the Windows XP system, the download window might not appear correctly when executing the Document Manager download function. To correct this problem in the browser, click Tools > Internet Options > Security > Custom Level > Downloads, and then select Enable Automatic Prompting for file downloads.
