Plan for using the Collaboration Center

Overview

To use the Collaboration Center, have an existing installation of WebSphere Portal with collaboration features and know how to work with a collaborative portal.

The Collaboration Center portlets and pages are visible after installation, but most require configuration with the necessary Domino and Extended products servers and user directory. If the necessary servers and directory are already configured in your portal environment, you can proceed to configuring the Collaboration Center portlets.

Collaborative portal information

If you are unfamiliar with setting up a collaborative portal, in addition to reading Getting started with collaboration and Planning for collaboration under See also, see the diagram of a collaborative portal under Installation scenarios, Scenario 5: WebSphere Portal with Lotus Collaborative Services.

Server prerequisites

The Collaboration Center and its portlets are installed and deployed during portal installation, so you can see them at any time.

For use in the portal, the Collaboration Center may require the presence of and configuration of any or all of the following Domino and Extended products servers, so be sure to review the system requirements for these servers covered in Supported hardware and software:

  • IBM Lotus Domino
  • IBM Lotus Team Workplaces (formerly QuickPlace)
  • IBM Lotus Instant Messaging and Web Conferencing (formerly Sametime)
  • IBM Lotus Domino Document Manager (formerly Domino.Doc)
  • IBM Domino Web Access (iNotes)

Other prerequisites

A collaborative portal with the Collaboration Center has several other configuration requirements.

  • Collaborative Services are a prerequisite for the three portlets that depend on server settings specified in the CSEnvironment.properties file: Lotus My Team Workplaces, Lotus Instant Messaging Contact List, and Who Is Here
  • Configuration of WebSphere Member Manager in the portal is a prerequisite for the People Finder portlet, so that the portlet can access the organization directory. See the topic WebSphere Member Manager and People Finder under See also.
  • Some Collaboration Center portlets -- Lotus My Team Workplaces, Notes and Domino, and Domino Web Access (iNotes) -- require single signon (SSO) support for authentication, so be prepared to enable SSO on your collaborative portal and on any Domino and Extended products servers. You will also need to understand how SSO-enabled LDAP works in the portal environment.
  • Verify that the Click-to-Action (cooperative portlet) service is installed in your collaborative portal environment. For more information, see Concepts of cooperative portlets under See also.
