Accessibility features help users who have a physical disability, such as restricted mobility or limited vision, to use software products successfully.

 

Accessibility features in WebSphere Portal

Accessibility features in this version of WebSphere Portal include:

  • Interfaces commonly used by screen readers (Windows only)

  • Can be operated using only the keyboard

  • Allows the user to request more time to complete timed responses

  • Customization of display attributes such as color, contrast, and font size

  • Communicates all information independently of color

  • Interfaces commonly used by screen magnifiers (Windows only)

  • The attachment of alternative input and output devices

  • Alternatives to audio information

  • Adjustable volume control

  • Does not flash the screen at rates that could induce epileptic seizures

  • Use of screen-reader software and digital speech synthesizers to hear what is displayed on the screen.

  • Documentation in an accessible format

When appropriate, the documentation for specific product features contains additional information about accessibility.

 

Accessibility limitations in WebSphere Portal

Accessibility limitations in this version of WebSphere Portal include the following:

  • The Portal Productivity components for editing documents do not support interoperability with assistive technology (AT). AT users can use Microsoft Office applications as an alternative for viewing & editing files.

  • The versions of Lotus Team Workplace, Lotus Instant Messaging and Web Conferencing, and Domino that are bundled with WebSphere Portal are not fully accessible when used as standalone products. AT users can access these products when used as integrated with WebSphere Portal.

  • The graphical installation program is not accessible for AT users. Instead, AT users must use the console interface when installing WebSphere Portal.
