IBM Tivoli Composite Application Manager for Application Diagnostics, Version 7.1.0.1
Requirements to install the Managing Server with a non-root user
Normally, use the root user to Managing Server. If use a non-root user to install the Managing Server, the following requirements must be fulfilled:
- You must perform a Custom or silent installation with an existing WAS and existing database.
- If you are performing a GUI installation, run the installation from a command line.
- This non-root installation user must be the same user as the user for the existing WAS.
- WAS global security must be enabled for the existing WAS.
You cannot use the local operating system user to enable WAS global security when performing a Managing Server installation as a non-root user. If you do so, you will not be able to start WAS correctly.
Use the user for the existing WAS to enable WAS global security. You can also use the LDAP user to enable WAS global security.
- When installing the Managing Server and choosing the features to install, you cannot specify Database Tables. After installation, you will need to create the tables manually (see Manually creating database tables).
- The user must have read, write and execute privileges to one of the following system temporary directories. These directories will be used by the InstallShield portion of the installation program:
Default temporary directories
Operating system Directory Solaris or HP-UX /var/tmp Linux and all other UNIX platforms /tmp
- The user must be able to log to /var/ibm/tivoli.
- You might have to create this directory as root and use the chown command to change ownership to the user.
- The installation program does not need to actually write to this directory.
For a GUI installation, you have two options:
- Run the installation from a command line with an option to specify the log directory. See Step 6 of the GUI installation procedure.
- You can change the log directory after the GUI installer has been started. If you cannot write to the default log directory, the installer displays a panel that lets you specify a writeable log directory. Remember to specify a directory that has read and write privileges.
If your are performing a silent installation, there are options to set the log file directory in the command line or response file.
