IBM Tivoli Composite Application Manager for Application Diagnostics, Version 7.1.0.1
Customization for the Managing Server on UNIX and Linux
This section contains instructions for customizing your configuration of the Managing Server.
- Create additional instances of Managing Server components
- Split Managing Server installation in Unix
- Fine-tuning Managing Server properties
- Tuning recommendations for large-scale environments
Here are tuning recommendations for when the Managing Server is used for supporting large scale environments or high volumes of request traffic. For example, when there are 250 data collectors running at a total of 500 requests per second:- Enable method signature tracing
- Set up the e-mail host
- Set up the e-mail sender address
- Set up the Visualization Engine port for e-mail notifications
- Set up SNMP
- Rebuilding the HP-UX kernel
- Increase the Linux kernel setting
- Configure a Managing Server on a host with multiple network interfaces and NATs
- Adjust maximum resource settings for the operating system
- Assign local Publish Servers to local data collectors to reduce WAN traffic in a split Managing Server installation
By default, the Managing Server kernel assigns Publish Servers to data collectors based on Publish Server availability, using a round robin algorithm. On a multiple site deployment, this can lead to a data collector on one site being assigned to a Publishing Server on a different site, even if a Publishing Server on the same site is also available. This generates significant network traffic between sites and may adversely affect performance. To ensure a local Publish Server is assigned to data collectors when available, you can set up a subnet policy algorithm instead of round robin.- Create additional users to log into the ITCAM for Application Diagnostics Managing Server
- Change the user name and password for the database Schema user
- Enable launching into Tivoli Enterprise Portal from the Managing Server
- Use the 7.1.0.1 Managing Server with a 6.0 data collector
You may use data collectors from ITCAM for WebSphere 6.0 or ITCAM for J2EE 6.0 with the current Managing Server. To do this on the Managing Server.- Change the IP address or host name of the Managing Server
- Make sure the Managing Server's host name gets resolved to the correct IP address
The data collector obtains the Managing Server Kernel's network address from the Managing Server. If a host name is specified for the Kernel, there is a possibility that one of the resolved IP addresses cannot reach the Managing Server from the data collector, and the connection to the data collector will fail with a Connection refused error message.- Sustain large amounts of trace
- Start ITCAM for Application Diagnostics automatically upon reboot
If you want ITCAM for Application Diagnostics to start automatically upon reboot, you can activate the appropriate scripts for the components.- Set up the Managing Server to automatically configure data collectors
