Update Packaging Utility in wizard mode

Update Packaging Utility using the service repository or downloaded files.

If Installation Manager is installed, we can use the Packaging Utility service repository to update Packaging Utility to the latest version without downloading files. If Installation Manager is not installed or if we want to update to an earlier version of Packaging Utility, we must download the Packaging Utility installation kit.

If we use the service repositories, we must have an IBM user name and password. To register for an IBM user name and password, go to: http://www.ibm.com/account/profile.

Procedure

To update Packaging Utility using the service repository, we must have Installation Manager installed and have access to www.ibm.com. To use the download files, see Update Packaging Utility using the download files.

  1. Start Installation Manager.

  2. Add the service repository location for Packaging Utility:

    1. In Installation Manager, click File > Preferences > Repositories.

    2. Click Add Repository.

    3. Enter the repository: http://www.ibm.com/software/repositorymanager/com.ibm.cic.packagingUtility

    4. Enter your IBM user name and password.

  3. On the main page of Installation Manager, click Update.
  4. Complete the Update wizard to update the Packaging Utility.


Results

Packaging Utility is updated.


Update Packaging Utility using the download kit

Procedure

  1. Download the Packaging Utility installation kit for your platform.

    Go to the Packing Utility download links technical document and click the applicable download document link. The download document contains details about downloading the installation files.

    To update Packaging Utility on more than one platform, download the update package: pu.update_version.zip. To update Packaging Utility on one platform, download a platform-specific installation kit: pu.offering.disk.platform_version.zip.

    The update to Packaging Utility might require a later version of Installation Manager. You receive a prompt to update Installation Manager when we update Packaging Utility.

  2. Extract the Packaging Utility installation kit from the compressed file.

  3. Start Installation Manager.

  4. Add the location of the extracted files to the repository list:

    1. In Installation Manager, click File > Preferences > Repositories.

    2. Click Add Repository.

    3. Enter the path to the diskTag.inf file from the installation kit or the repository.config file from the update package:

  5. On the main page of Installation Manager, click Update.
  6. Complete the wizard to update the Packaging Utility.
