Determining and modifying the process path in Process Portal
A process can have several routes or paths that can be used to complete a process. The time needed to complete each path depends on how long it takes users to perform each task along the path. You can use the critical path management tool to determine and modify the process path.
To use critical path management tool in Process Portal, you must have the appropriate authorization.
Generally, the critical path is the route that takes the most time to complete. The time required to complete each path is calculated from the durations and due dates of the tasks in the path. Using the critical path management tool, you can determine whether a running process instance is on track for completion, change the due date for a process instance, and adjust the due dates of activities and tasks in a process instance to get the instance back on track.
You can access the critical path management tool by clicking the down arrow to the right of a process or task name, and selecting Critical Path Management from the list of actions.
- Critical path projection for a process
You can use the critical path projection within the critical path management tool in Process Portal to identify different paths through a process. With this information you can analyze how long it will take to complete the process under different circumstances.
- Milestones, activities, and tasks in the critical path management tool
The Critical Path Management section of the critical path management tool in Process Portal displays values for the priority, duration, and due date of activities and tasks for the selected process.- Changing settings for a process or task based on critical path analysis
After analyzing the projections for a process using the critical path management tool, you might want to change specific settings, such as the due date for the overall instance, or the due date for individual tasks. You can use the critical path management tool in Process Portal to make these changes.- Making bulk changes to process values based on critical path analysis
If you want to change several values simultaneously when performing critical path analysis for a process, you can do so quickly using the mass updates settings in Process Portal.
- Export critical path data from Process Portal to Microsoft Excel
You can export data from the critical path management tool in Process Portal to a Microsoft Excel .csv file.
