Defining reports
You use reports to chart the value of a measure for each dimension.
For example, you can define a bar chart that displays the total price for an item based on the date on which the item was ordered. The report, in the form you define for the chart type, is displayed on the generated dashboard.
To define a report, first have a cube. A cube is created automatically each time a monitoring context is created.
This task describes how to define a report from the Dimensional Model tab of the Monitor Model editor. The report created is available on the generated dashboard as soon as you deploy the associated monitor model with the dashboard generation option.
If that you have two other options for creating a report:
- Using the Report Designer widget, which is a tool for creating and editing simple or detailed reports directly from a dashboard space.
- From IBM Cognos Business Intelligence, which provides advanced authoring features for generating reports.
Tip: The Report Designer widget provides a gateway to IBM Cognos BI.
To define a report from the Monitor Model editor, complete the following steps:
Procedure
- Click the Dimensional Model tab of the editor, and right-click the cube in the model tree. Click New > Report.
- In the Create New Report window, type a name in the Name field and click OK. The name is limited to 256 characters, which cannot include backslash (\), forward slash
(/), colon (:), asterisk (*), question mark (?), single quotation
mark ('), open angle bracket (<), close angle bracket (>), or pipe (|). These unsupported characters will be removed.
As you type the name, a default ID is created for you, although you can change it if you prefer. The ID is required and must be unique within the cube. The ID must be an XML NCName (non-colonized name), which means that it must start with a letter or underscore, and can contain only letters, digits, underscores, hyphens, and periods.
The report is added to the Reports table and is also added under the cube in the model tree.
- Click the report in the model tree, and then select the measure and dimension on which the report is based and the chart type used to display the report.
You can also select the measure, dimension, and chart type directly from the Reports table.
