Defining dimensional models
When you define a monitoring context, an associated cube definition is created automatically. On the Dimensional Model page, you can add measures, dimensions, and dimension levels to the cube.
- Defining cubes
When you create a monitoring context, a cube is automatically created and associated with the new monitoring context. The cube defines how information collected by monitoring context instances is stored.- Defining measures
Measures are calculations based on metrics. A measure points to a metric (such as order amount) and specifies an aggregation function (such as average or sum). You can define measures to be used in dimensional analysis in the dashboards.- Defining dimensions
Dimensions are data categories used to organize and select data for retrieval, monitoring, and analysis. Dimensions are composed of one or more hierarchical levels. For example, Location could be a dimension with levels of City, Region, and Country.
- Defining reports
You use reports to chart the value of a measure for each dimension.
For example, you can define a bar chart that displays the total price for an item based on the date on which the item was ordered. The report, in the form you define for the chart type, is displayed on the generated dashboard.
