Working with the Agent Controller
The Agent Controller is a process that provides information about running applications to other applications, for example testing or debugging tools.
In some WebSphere Studio products, the Agent Controller is automatically installed on your development system and started with the workbench. To confirm whether it is installed, follow the instructions for starting and stopping the Agent Controller.
The Agent Controller must be installed and running before you start any of the following tasks:
- Profiling applications
- Creating logs other than LoggingUtil.log, which is created by default in the workspace\.metadata directory.
- Creating a server instance to run remotely (WebSphere Application Server)
- Testing a project remotely using WebSphere Application Server
For instructions on installing the Agent Controller separately on a different machine, for example to test an application remotely, refer to the installation guide for this product.
For instructions on administering the Agent Controller, refer to the task Administering the Agent Controller.
For more information on profiling and logging applications, refer to the online help for the Profiling tools.
For more information on testing and publishing tools, and the WebSphere test environment, which is the complete run-time environment of WebSphere Application Server, refer to the online help for the Server Tools feature.Related tasks
