View application status based on policy
If you are an administrator or application manager, you can use Policy Status to view the status of an application based on the current policy in force for an application. If you need to change the assigned policy, you can do so by editing the Policy Selection Attribute. Then you can view the updated application status based on the new policy assignment.
View the detailed information about the policy settings that monitor the status of the application. Edit the Policy Selection Attribute and update the status as necessary to assess the effects of applying different policies to the application.
ApplicationThe name of the application, qualified by its category.
General statusThe general status of the application based on the policy in force. Values can be OK, Alert, or Undetectable. Application status is indicated as Undetectable if an application contains components that cannot be managed by policy.
OwnerThe name of the application owner.
Current policy in the policy hierarchyThe policy that has been assigned to the application within the hierarchy of application policies.
Policy Selection AttributeThe value of a named condition in an existing policy rule. The policy rule using the conditional expression must be used in applications that apply the same policy. The value that you specify will assign a different policy to the application.
The conditions of the rule belonging to the parent policy are available for selection when you create child policies. One condition of the parent policy rule is associated with a child policy. The condition for each child policy must be fulfilled when the rule of the parent policy is applied.
Click Edit to assign a different policy to the application by changing the Policy Selection Attribute.
Update StatusIf you have edited the Policy Selection Attribute, click Update Status to view the status of the application with the new policy applied.
Policy SettingDisplays the application conditions that the policy monitors:
- Maximum application size
- Maximum no-modify period
- Maximum inactivity period
Policy AllowanceDisplays the values that set the limits of each application condition that is monitored by the policy.
Application Current ValueDisplays the current level detected by policy sensors for each application condition being monitored.
Application StatusDisplays whether the application has exceeded the policy limit, reached the warning threshold, or is safely below the limit. The following values indicate detailed status:
For example, if the policy sets the maximum size of an application to 100 MB and a size warning threshold to 80 MB, when the application size reaches 81 MB, the status of the application will be Warning.
- OK indicates that the application is operating within all limits set by the assigned policy.
- Warning indicates that the application has surpassed a warning threshold specified by the assigned policy.
- Exceeded indicates that the application has surpassed a limit specified by the assigned policy.
