Migrate the dmgr

WebSphere Portal provides a plug-in that enables you to migrate the dmgr and nodes.

  1. If the dmgr that will be used for the V7 environment is not installed on the same system as the new version of WebSphere Portal, complete these steps to copy the required files (including the migration plug-in) from the source portal system to the dmgr system:

    1. An archive or compressed file will be placed in the $PORTAL_HOME/filesForDmgr directory during installation; the file is called filesForDmgr.zip. Copy the filesForDmgr.zip file to the remote dmgr system.

    2. Stop the dmgr.

    3. Expand the filesForDmgr.zip file into the installation root directory of the dmgr; for example in the C:/IBM/WebSphere/AppServer directory.

If the dmgr profile was not created in the default AppServer/profiles/Dmgr01 directory, then the metadata_wkplc.xml file, located in the AppServer/profiles/Dmgr01/config/.repository/metadata_wkplc.xml directory in the zip file, must be copied into the config/.repository subdirectory under the dmgr profile directory.

    4. Start the dmgr.

Failure to copy the migration plug-in files to the dmgr can result in the following error when you try to upgrade the ConfigEngine tool from V6.1 to V7: com.ibm.websphere.management.exception.InvalidConfigDataTypeException: ADMG0007E: The configuration data type CellCompRegistryCollection is not valid

  2. Use the WAS V7.0 tools to migrate the dmgr to V7.0.

On some OSs, you can choose whether to use the migration wizard or run the WASPreUpgrade and WASPostUpgrade commands; see the appropriate "Migrating product configurations" link under Related information. When migrating the dmgr, use the same cell name as the earlier portal environment. The Migration wizard does this for you automatically. If you use the WASPreUpgrade and WASPostUpgrade commands, make sure you specify the correct cell name when you specify the parameters. This same requirement applies if you use the Profile Management Tool or the manageprofiles command to create a new dmgr profile; make sure you specify the same cell name as what the earlier portal environment uses.
