Common Mail
The Common Mail portlet is installed automatically as part of WebSphere Portal installation, and can connect to any type of mail server over the IMAP4 protocol. In addition to basic mail support, the portlet supports an inline rich text editor for message creation and editing, and a spell checker.
To access the Common Mail portlet, from the product banner, click Applications -> Messaging and then click Mail.
Users must have an internet address and an internet password, and can choose Configure (from the dropdown menu in the portlet title bar) to specify the mail server name and protocol, whether to use SSL, the outgoing mail server name, and the credential vault slot for the server. If you are an administrator, you see the command Edit Shared Settings instead of Personalize. This command works the same as Personalize except that changes apply to all users of the instance of the portlet whose settings you are editing, up until the time a user decides to personalize the portlet. In this case, this would result in all users having the administrator email address and user name and password credentials. Use caution when editing shared settings.
1. Set Common Mail preferences
To enable user mail preferences such as signatures and the default text style used to compose mail, you define the appropriate properties in a property extension database.
2. Enable Spell Checker in the Common Mail portlet
The Spell Checker function is automatically installed with WebSphere Portal and is enabled by default.
3. Enable Common Mail users to set a time zone preference
To enable users to have the Common Mail portlet reflect their time zone, the portal administrator enables the required attribute on the Edit My Profile page so that it is available as a preference to users in their profiles.
4. Set up the Common Mail portlet as a remote portlet
To set up the Common Mail portlet for remote use, set up two WebSphere Portal servers, the WSRP Producer and the WSRP Consumer.
5. Common Mail portlet reference
Administrators can configure the Common Mail portlet for mail servers that use IMAP4 protocol. In addition to basic mail support, the portlet also supports an inline rich text editor for message creation and editing, and a spell checker.
