Dealing with invalid XML characters

In some cases, illegal XML characters will be returned from a Siebel database as part of a field name. IBM® WebSphere Portlet Factory provides a mechanism to define substitutions for characters in Siebel field names that would otherwise cause invalid XML element names. Substitutions are controlled by the siebel_builder.properties file, located in your project under WEB-INF/config/siebel_config directory.

You can examine the Siebel properties file to view known problem characters. You can add a character substitution to this file with the "replace.char." prefix.
