Understand cross-cell deployment scenarios
In a cross-cell deployment, IBM WebSphere Portal is managed in a cell that is separate from the cell of the IBM WebSphere Process Server server to which it connects. There are three cross-cell deployment scenarios for enabling your portal environment with business process integration (BPI). Determine which scenario suits your needs for a BPI-enabled portal.
The following cross-cell deployment scenarios for a BPI-enabled portal are illustrated in the figure:
- A BPI-enabled stand-alone portal can connect to a WebSphere Process Server server or a cluster.
- A BPI-enabled portal that is part of a managed cell can connect to a WebSphere Process Server server or a cluster outside of the cell.
- A BPI-enabled portal cluster that is part of a managed cell can connect to a WebSphere Process Server server or a cluster outside of the cell.
The procedure that follow for enabling process integration with a cross-cell setup will depend on which configuration sequence you use.
- If you start with a stand-alone portal, a portal that is part of a managed cell, or a portal cluster, follow the flows in the figure that are marked EPIXC and complete the steps in the procedure Enabling process integration in a cross-cell setup.
- If you start with a BPI-enabled stand-alone portal, follow the flows in the figure marked BPIEP and complete the steps in the procedure Adding a BPI-enabled server to the managed cell.
- Enabling process integration in a cross-cell setup
Enable an IBM WebSphere Portal server or cluster for process integration. Install the IBM WebSphere Process Server Client option, run the automated tasks for setting up business process integration, and configure single-sign on.- Adding a BPI-enabled portal server to a managed cell in a cross-cell setup
If you are adding a BPI-enabled portal server to a managed cell or using the BPI-enabled portal server as a primary node to build an IBM WebSphere Portal cluster, make sure to perform this procedure after you have federated the portal or created the cluster.
