If you have a local instance of WebSphere Process Server installed with WebSphere Portal, it should probably be upgraded. If only the WPS client was installed after the Portal install for remote connectivity, then you probably don't need to upgrade.

  1. Verify minimum fix pack levels for WebSphere Process Server

  2. Read Determining how to migrate your process portal deployment

  3. Read Migrating from previous versions of WebSphere Process Server and WebSphere Enterprise Service Bus

    1. The topic Migration considerations for Business Process Choreographer identifies a requirement that does not apply to migrating process portals.

BPC and WPS profiles do not need to have matching augmentation levels if the migration source profile resides in a BPC component installation.

      • When the migration source profile resides in a BPC component installation, the WPS migration check for augmentation level allows for migration from a BPC v6.x augmentation profile to a WPS V6.1 augmentation profile.

      • If you use the WPS Migration wizard, the wizard creates a WPS profile as the migration target for a BPC profile residing in a BPC component installation. That is, when the source deployment is a BPC component installation, the wizard creates a WPS profile instead of a BPC profile.

    2. In previous versions of WPS, people directory configuration was referred to as the staff plug-in.

If in previous versions of WPS you configured BPC to use WebSphere Member Manager to take full advantage of the people resolution and people assignment features, understand how support for virtual member manager in WPS V6.1 affects people directory adapters configured for the previous version.

If you are usinkg task list portlets that come, back them up before performing the upgrade.

Now you are ready to run the migration tasks for a process portal environment.
