Running the disconnected scanner on demand

Run the ilmt_scanner command to run on-demand software and hardware scans with the IBM License Metric Tool disconnected scanner that is integrated in the virtual appliance.

An IBM License Metric Tool is integrated in the virtual appliance to periodically inventory software, and gather hardware information, in the local virtual appliance node. The resulting report packages can be uploaded to the License Metric Tool server. See Integration with IBM License Metric Tool.

By default, the disconnected scanner does capacity scans of the virtual appliance every 30 minutes and initiates a software scan once every week. It creates a License Metric Tool package once a week, every Sunday at 1:00 A.M.

We can use this command to run scans at any time. The latest output package is saved in the directories/ilmt_output folder in the Custom File Management pane of the virtual appliance local management interface. For more information about how to download the package from this location before you upload it to the IBM License Metric Tool server, see Collecting scan reports from the integrated IBM License Metric Tool disconnected scanner.

  1. Access the command-line interface (CLI) of the virtual appliance from an ssh session or the console.

  2. From the command line interface, log on to ISIM virtual appliance.

  3. Enter the isim command at the isimvasvr prompt.

  4. Enter the ilmt_scanner command at the isimvasvr:isim prompt. The command requires no arguments.

After the scan is completed, the output package is saved in the directories/ilmt_output folder in the Custom File Management pane of the virtual appliance local management interface. The file is named:

<time-stamp>-<hostname>-<Unique_ID>.tar.gz
