Services - IBM Security Identity Manager
A service represents a managed resource, such as an operating system, a database application, a J2EE application server application, or a user repository.
Users access these services by using an account on the service. Services are created from service types, which represent a set of managed resources sharing similar attributes. For example, there is a default service type that represents Linux machines. These service types are installed by default when ISIM is installed. Alternatively, they are installed when we import the service definition files for the adapters for those managed resources. Accounts on services identify the users of the service. Accounts contain the login and access information of the user and allow the use of specific resources. Most services use ISIM to provision accounts, which usually involves some workflow processes that must be completed successfully. However, manual services generate a work order activity that defines the manual intervention that is required to complete the request or to provision the account for the user. A service owner owns and maintains a particular service in ISIM and is either a person or a static organizational role where all the members of the organizational role are considered service owners. If that static organizational role contains other roles, then all members of those roles are also considered service owners.
