Accessing content behind a firewall

Often, it is necessary to use some sort of proxy server to traverse a firewall and access Web content. For example, many corporations require their employees to use a firewall to access Internet content (as opposed to intranet content). What's more, small units within large corporations often have their own firewalls to provide more granular security controls. For these reasons, the Web Clipping Portlet supports the creation of clipping portlets that can access content behind firewalls. You can configure the firewall options for a Web clipping portlet using the Modify firewall options page when you create a Web clipping portlet, or you can add these options later.

Follow these steps to create or modify a Web clipping portlet to use a firewall to access its content:

  1. Log in to the portal as the administrator or as a user that has access rights to create new Web clipping portlets.
  2. Click Administration. (Be aware that the navigation control can appear different, depending on the theme and skin you have selected.)
  3. Click Portlets. (Again, the actual control and location of the control can differ from theme to theme.)
  4. Click Web Clipping.
  5. Click New Portlet to create a new Web clipping portlet, or click Edit if modifying an existing one.
  6. Enter (or verify) the Web clipping portlet name and URL path, and then select Advanced Options .
  7. Select Modify firewall options
  8. Select Use a proxy server and enter the remaining proxy information.
  9. When complete, click Done.

After finishing these steps, continue as usual to save the new or modified Web clipping portlet.
