Overview

WebSphere Portal and WAS require some form of user registry. There are several possible ways to provide WAS and WebSphere Portal with access to a user registry:

You can configure WebSphere Portal to use an LDAP directory to store user information and to authenticate users. the procedures to follow if you plan to use an LDAP directory with WebSphere Portal.

Use the IBM Web Administration for iSeries tool when configuring WebSphere Portal instances. The wizard creates the necessary servers (HTTP and WAS), configures the server for Portal, configures the database for Portal, configures security (LDAP) for Portal, and deploys the portlets installed with the WebSphere Portal product. You can edit the Portal instance configuration manually after you have used the WebSphere Portal wizard.

  1. Review Planning considerations for LDAP to learn about the following information:

    • Use existing LDAP software
    • Use local or remote LDAP software
    • Use SSL with the LDAP software
    • Other considerations regarding the use of an LDAP directory

  2. Install the LDAP server

  3. Set up the LDAP server to work with WebSphere Portal.

  4. Set up LDAP over SSL. (Optional)

  5. Configure the LDAP server for WebSphere Portal.

  6. Configure WebSphere Portal for LDAP searches. (Optionally)

  7. Verify the connection between WebSphere Portal and the LDAP server.
