Choose your connection
Choose from several different ways to connect to your i5/OS® operating system, depending on the needs of your business environment. You can access, administer, and use your system from a Web client, Windows client, Linux client, or a wireless client. To interact with your system, you can use the traditional character-based interface, or, if you prefer a graphical user interface, you can use iSeries™ Navigator. Other interface choices and several consoles are also available for establishing a connection to your i5/OS operating system.
- Connecting to System i: Web clients
Use your Web browser to access and administer your system through the iSeries Access for Web licensed program.
- Connecting to System i: Windows clients
Access and administer your system from your Microsoft® Windows® desktop through the iSeries Access for Windows licensed program, iSeries Navigator, and EZ-Setup. iSeries Navigator and EZ-Setup are included with iSeries Access for Windows.
- Connecting to System i: Linux clients
Access data on your system and establish a 5250 session through the licensed program.
- Connecting to System i: Wireless clients
Use wireless, handheld devices to access and administer your system using the licensed program.
- Connecting to System i: Interfaces
Use the graphical user interface provided by iSeries Navigator to access and administer your system, or use the character-based interface from an attached console or emulator session. You can also simplify your system setup by using EZ-Setup.iSeries Navigator and EZ-Setup are included with the iSeries Access for Windows licensed program.
- Connecting to System i: Consoles
Use Operations Console, twinaxial console, Hardware Management Console, or the Thin Console for System i5™ as system consoles to access and administer your system. Operations Console is available with the Windows client, theiSeries Access for Windows licensed program. Hardware Management Console and the Thin Console are available on some models.
