Shortening planned outages

 

Planned outages are necessary and are expected; however, because they are planned does not mean they are nondisruptive. Planned outages are often related to system maintenance.

Clusters can effectively eliminate planned outages by providing application and data availability on a second system or partition during the planned outage.

  A key consideration of any backup strategy is determining your backup window, which is the amount of time that your system can be unavailable to users while you perform your backup operations. By reducing the amount of time it takes to complete your backups, you can also reduce the amount of time your system is unavailable.

  You can keep your system available by effectively planning and managing fixes and installing new releases.

• Shortening hardware maintenance and upgrade windows
  By effectively planning hardware maintenance and upgrades, you can greatly reduce and even eliminate the impact of these activities to the availability of your system.
