Reviewing software PTF (fix) requirements
Before you begin the i5/OS® installation process, make sure that your system is ready by reviewing your requirements for program temporary fixes (PTFs).
For this release, for example, a PTF for accepting online software agreements for Licensed Internal Code and the i5/OS operating system is required to be temporarily applied before you upgrade. If you are upgrading to V5R4, a PTF to allocate additional space for the Licensed Internal Code before you upgrade might also be required.
- Finding the latest PSP information
Keep informed on the most recent information about conditions that could impede your i5/OS software installation process.
- Analyzing fixes you currently have on your system
A fix cross-reference summary list enables you to analyze the program temporary fixes (PTFs) and Licensed Internal Code fixes you currently have installed on your system.
- Required: Installing the Prepare for Install PTFs for V5R2 and V5R3
Situations can arise that require specific program temporary fixes (PTFs) before you can install a new i5/OS release.
- Installing optional i5/OS PTF to choose disk configuration
Today, as part of the automatic installation process, all nonconfigured disk units are added to the system auxiliary storage pool (ASP). If you are using automatic installation to upgrade the operating system from V5R2 to V5R4 and do not want nonconfigured disk units added, a PTF is available.
- Permanently applying program temporary fixes (PTFs)
Temporarily applied PTFs require a considerable amount of disk storage space. Follow these procedures only for i5/OS products and temporarily applied PTFs that you have verified on your system.
- Adding fix support for currently installed licensed programs
IBM® licensed programs that are installed on your system are not automatically supported after an i5/OS upgrade to a new release.
