Associating an HTML rendering server with WebSphere Portal Express

After selecting a display number for the HTML rendering server (X virtual frame buffer for X server), associate this server with the installed IBM® WebSphere® Portal Express profile.

Before starting these steps, have a WebSphere Portal Express profile running on your System i5 system. Make note of the name of your WebSphere Portal Express profile.

To associate the HTML rendering server (X virtual frame buffer for X server) with WebSphere Portal Express, follow these steps:

  1. Start the IBM WebSphere Application Server administrative console by entering the following in the location bar of a Web browser:

    http://system_name.com:admin_port/admin

    where system_name.com is the name of your System i5 server and admin_port is the port assigned to the administrative console of the server1 server. This port number varies depending on the environment and the base port specified for the WebSphere Portal Express profile.

  2. In the left frame, open the Servers section by clicking the plus (+) sign.

  3. Click Application Servers.

  4. In the right frame, select the application server to which your application is deployed.

  5. On the Configuration tab, go to Server Infrastructure > Java and Process Management and click Process Definition.

  6. Click Custom Properties.

  7. Click New.

  8. In the Name field type DISPLAY.

  9. In the Value field type host_name:n, where host_name is the TCP/IP host name of your system and n is the display number of the HTML rendering server. (Example: 'mysystem.xland.company.com:1').

  10. Click OK.

  11. Save your changes to the master WebSphere Application Server configuration file.

  12. Restart the WebSphere Application Server that was changed. Refer to these instructions.
