Install Personalization without WebSphere Portal Express

The WebSphere Portal Express Personalization component selects content for users, based on information in their profiles and on business rules. By using Portal Personalization, business experts can classify site visitors into segments and then target relevant content to each segment. Personalization also includes analytic capabilities to record site usage patterns and the LikeMinds recommendation engine, which provides collaborative filtering capabilities. Collaborative filtering uses statistical techniques to identify groups of users with similar interests or behaviors. Inferences can be made about what a particular user might be interested in, based on the interests of the other members of the group.

The instructions in this section describe how to install the Personalization Server function in WebSphere Application Server, but without WebSphere Portal Express. If you want to install Personalization as part of WebSphere Portal Express, refer to the Installing section for more information.

 

Overview of steps to plan, install, and configure Personalization without WebSphere Portal Express

  1. Review Planning for the Portal Personalization Server to learn about any considerations you should be aware of before installing the Personalization Server.

  2. Refer to Installing databases for Personalization for database considerations specific to the Feedback web analytics portion of the Personalization Server.

  3. Refer to Configuring LikeMinds support for Personalization if you want to use the LikeMinds recommendation engine provided with Personalization.

  4. Install the Personalization Server.

  5. Verify that the Personalization Server is working as expected.
