Designating the Sametime Community server for Inline QuickPlace

Specify the name of the Sametime server in the QuickPlace Server Settings room.

These instructions assume that the awareness feature has been independently tested on the Sametime server and is functioning properly, and that multi-server single sign-on is set up between the Sametime and QuickPlace servers.

On any system with a browser...

  1. Enter the URL of the QuickPlace server. For example: http://servername.enterprise.com/QuickPlace

  2. Click Sign In at the top corner of the screen.

  3. Enter the user name and password of a QuickPlace server administrator.

  4. Click Server Settings in the table of contents.

  5. Click Other Options in the table of contents.

  6. Click Edit Options.

  7. Under the Sametime Servers heading, make sure that the Sametime Community Server is in the community field. Use the server's URL. For example:http://meetingserver.enterprise.com

The QuickPlace server is not immediately integrated with Sametime Instant Messaging. Wait a few minutes for the setting to take effect, or restart the QuickPlace server to integrate immediately.

  8. Click My Places, and open a QuickPlace.

  9. Click Customize.

  10. Click Basics.

  11. Click Change Basics.

  12. On the Change Basics page, scroll down to the bottom. Under Real-time collaboration, make sure "Members can see who is online and send instant messages" is checked.

This setting is enabled by default, but you should check to make sure it is actually enabled in any QuickPlace where members will be collaborating online.

  13. Click Done.

  14. Verify that awareness is working by checking for the green Awareness icon next to the user name in the top left corner below the QuickPlace name.

You must log in as an external user. Instant Messaging features are not available to local users.

  15. To test chat, click Chat from the contents list. A list of online members will be displayed. Click a user name to begin a chat. You can also find a document that was created by a user listed online, click the user's name, and then select Chat.
