Application properties

Use the Properties portlet to view and edit the properties of a composite application. From the drop-down menu of an application page, click Edit Application Properties to display the properties of the application. Then click Edit to change application properties that are editable.

Application properties include the application name, category, backup option, description, theme, owner, creation date and time, revision date and time, and source template. Each instance of a composite application derives its properties from the template that defines the application. When you edit the properties of a composite application, you change the properties of that application instance. Other instances of the application are not affected, and the template is not affected. The application name and description are self-explanatory; the other properties require special consideration.

Category

The category of the application is specified by the template. You can change the application category by selecting another category from the list. Changing the category of an application does not affect the content of the application. When you filter the applications catalog, the application will be listed in the new category.

Application Backup for Archiving and Restoring

If you want to be able to back up, archive, and restore the application, click Enable backup. You will want to back up, archive, or restore applications when their policies detect conditions that require these maintenance actions. After you enable backup for an application, the Backup and Archive icons display in the applications catalog. After you have backed up or archived an application, the Restore icon becomes available.

Theme

The theme defines the navigation, appearance, and layout of the pages of the composite application, including fonts, colors, and images. The application template specifies the theme for application pages and the policy that controls theme navigation style. You can view the name of the theme as an application property, but you cannot edit it.

Owner

If you are the owner of the composite application, you can delegate ownership of the application to another user by clicking Change Owner. You select the new application owner from the Directory Search window, which can be configured to let you filter your search using different directories. The individual you select to be the new owner of the application must be assigned a portal access role type that permits application creation and management permissions, including delegation of application ownership.

Tip: You can also change the owner of an application using the membership portlet of the application: From the page menu of the application, click Assign Application Members. When you change the application owner using the Members portlet, the Directory Search window allows you select a name from the application membership list only.

Titles and descriptions for other languages

If you want to specify foreign-language text for the application name (title) and description, click I want to set titles and descriptions for other languages. From the list of locales, find the language you need and click the Edit icon. In the page Set title and description for locale, specify the New title and New description in the selected language. Repeat this procedure for each foreign-language in which you want the application name and description to be displayed.

For more information about working with the properties of an application, see the Help topics that are available after you select Edit Application Properties from the menu of the application page.
