Define shipping charges
Shipping charges are the monetary amounts that you charge our customers to ship their orders.
Before starting
- For more information about defining shipping charges and an example, see Defining shipping data.
- Before you define shipping charges in WebSphere Commerce Accelerator, determine a strategy for all of the shipping charges you need to create.
- Consider the following items:
- How many shipping codes did you create? How many jurisdictions, shipping modes, and fulfillment centers are involved?
- How many shipping charges per shipping code do you need? For example, we might create an oversized shipping code that applies to all oversized products that are to be shipped to several jurisdictions. You would have to create a charge for each jurisdiction. Also, if you offer three different shipping modes (Overnight, 3 day, and 5 day) you have to create charges based on both shipping mode and jurisdiction.
- Ensure that you complete the following steps:
Procedure
- Open WebSphere Commerce Accelerator
- Click Store > Change Shipping. The Shipping Overview page is displayed.
- Click Shipping codes. The Shipping Codes page is displayed.
(Enterprise) In an extended site environment, shipping codes that are defined for an asset store extends to its stores. Shipping charges in these shipping codes are read only and no additional shipping charges can be created for these shipping codes.
- Select the shipping code to which the shipping charge applies.
- Click Charges. The Shipping Charges page is displayed.
- To define a new shipping charge, click New. The Define Charge Details page is displayed.
- In the Name field, type the name of the shipping charge.
- In the Description field, type a description of the new shipping charge.
- In the Time period section, select the time period when the charge is in effect.
- Select the Define fulfillment options check box. If you define more than one shipping mode, we must select the Define fulfillment options check box in order to specify which shipping mode to use. If you define more than one shipping mode and you do not select this check box, this shipping charge applies to all shipping modes.
- Click Next.
- If we selected Define fulfillment options, the Fulfillment Options page is displayed.
- To define a new fulfillment option, click New. The Create New Fulfillment Option page is displayed.
Note: Define fulfillment options that apply to this charge. If you have two different shipping modes that have different charges, define only one option now, and define the other when creating a new charge.
- From the Fulfillment center list, select the fulfillment center that fulfills the orders.
- From the Jurisdiction list, select the jurisdiction that the selected fulfillment center services.
- From the Shipping mode list, select the shipping mode that the selected fulfillment center and jurisdiction services.

- From the Currency list, select the currency for the charge, for example, USD (US dollars).
- In the Ranges table:
- To add a range, click Add. In the Start of range field, type the number that starts the range. For instance, 0 if the range is 0 - 5 items per order.
- To add another range, repeat the previous step. Once you enter a second range, the end number of the first range is automatically entered. For instance, if your first range was 0 - 5, your second range starts with 6.
- In the Charge column, type the amount to charge for that range. For instance, the amount to ship an order that contains 0 - 5 items might be $5.00. This amount is in the currency we selected from the list. To define amounts in second currency, select another new currency from the list.

Note: Use care once we select the weight or when the order has a combination of free shipping items. Free shipping items include downloadable products, and non-free shipping items. In such a scenario, ensure that the weight of the downloadable products and their cost is set to 0.
