Create predefined dynamic kits

A predefined dynamic kit contains a preconfiguration of the components in a dynamic kit. For example, we can configure a specific processor, hard drive, and monitor in the predefined dynamic kit for a computer dynamic kit.

About this task

If Sterling Configurator is enabled, we can create predefined dynamic kits for a dynamic kit.

Note: We cannot create a predefined dynamic kit for a static kit or for an inherited dynamic kit in extended site store. Follow this procedure to create a predefined dynamic kit with the Sterling Commerce integration.

Procedure

  1. Open the Catalogs tool.

  2. From the explorer filter, select Master Catalog.

  3. Copy an existing predefined dynamic kit, or create a predefined dynamic kit:

    • To copy an existing predefined dynamic kit, in the explorer tree, click the dynamic kit that the predefined dynamic kit belongs to. See Finding a catalog entry for an example.

    1. In the list view, right-click the predefined dynamic kit, and then click Copy.

    2. In the list view, right-click any field, and then click Paste. The predefined dynamic kit properties view displays.

    3. Make any necessary updates to any mandatory fields. See steps 4-10 for an explanation of each field. Restriction: To copy kits, we can also drag them from the main work area or utilities view into the explorer tree when we are using the Master Catalog filter. We cannot drag kits into the explorer tree when we are using the Master Catalog Categories filter or Sales Catalog Categories filter. A new predefined dynamic kit is added with the same attributes as the original predefined dynamic kit, unless you specify changes.

Note: When you copy a predefined dynamic kit, the offer price and merchandising associations for that dynamic kit, are not copied over.

    • There are two ways to add an entirely new predefined dynamic kit. In the explorer view, click the dynamic kit for which we are configuring a new predefined dynamic kit and then follow one of these methods:

      • Click File > New > Predefined Dynamic Kit.

      • Right-click, and then click New Predefined Dynamic Kit.

The properties view for the new predefined dynamic kit displays.

  4. In the Manage Predefined Dynamic Kit tab, expand the General Predefined Dynamic Kit Information section. Complete the following information:

    Property Description
Code The language independent catalog entry identifier.
Name The name of the catalog entry
Short description Type a brief description of the catalog entry.
Long description Type a detailed description, if applicable.
Keyword Type one or more keywords, which are separated by a comma and a space that describe the contents of the Web page. Some Internet search engines use these keywords to determine whether your page satisfies a search query. This field can be edited in multiple languages.
Manufacturer Type the name of the manufacturer or vendor.
Manufacturer part number Type the part number for the catalog entry, uniquely defined by the manufacturer. The part number is different from the code.
Parent Dynamic Kit The dynamic kit to which the predefined dynamic kit belongs. If we created the predefined dynamic kit without specifying a dynamic kit, this field is blank. We must specify a dynamic kit for the predefined dynamic kit.
Recurring order item Indicate whether the predefined dynamic kit is available for a recurring order.

  5. Expand the Publishing section. Complete the following information:

    Property Description
For purchase Indicate whether customers can include the product in their shopping carts and order it. This check box indicates whether customers can purchase this catalog entry. This check box is read-only.
On special Indicates whether the catalog entry is on special.
Announcement date Add the year, month, and day that the catalog entry becomes available to customers. Click the calendar icon to select a date. This is an informational field.
Withdrawal date Add the year, month, and day that the catalog entry is removed from the catalog and is unavailable for customers to purchase. Click the calendar icon to select a date. This is an informational field.

  6. Expand the Display section. Complete the following information:

    Property Description
Display to customers Select this check box to indicate that customers can view this product in the storefront.
Thumbnail Type the path to the thumbnail image and the name of the image, such as ../images/shirt.jpg. All image files must be placed in the store's defined image directory. Determining the correct image directory and whether you need an absolute or relative path depends on the store's configuration. For example, the WebSphere Commerce starter store images use a relative path that points to the default installation directory under the store name. Use of a relative path is most common. Use of an absolute path is dependent on the initial configuration. Ask a store developer with Site Administrator authority for the correct image directory if we are unsure. Or, if we are using Watson Content Hub, all image files must be stored as an asset in Watson Content Hub. This field can be edited in multiple languages.
Full image Type the path to the full-size image and the name of the image, such as ../images/shirt.jpg. All catalog entry image files should be placed in the store's defined image directory. The correct image directory and whether you need an absolute or relative path depends on the store's configuration. Ask a store developer with Site Administrator authority for the correct image directory. For example, the WebSphere Commerce starter store images use a relative path to the default installation path. This field can be edited in multiple languages. Or, if we are using Watson Content Hub, all image files must be stored as an asset in Watson Content Hub.

  7. Optional: Expand the Custom section. Complete the following information:

    Property Description
Field 1 (Integer) A customized field for the catalog entry data.
Field 2 A customized field for the catalog entry data. The entry must be an integer.
Field 3 A customized field for the catalog entry data. The entry must be a decimal number such as 5.345.
Field 4 A customized field for the catalog entry data. The entry must be text.
Field 5 A customized field for the catalog entry data. The entry must be text.

    2. Click the Configurator button. Sterling Configurator starts.

Note: Sterling Configurator displays components that we use to configure the predefined dynamic kit. You configure the components that Sterling Configurator displays when you define the model for the associated dynamic kit in Sterling Configurator Visual Modeler. If you configure a model that contains multiple option items with different dates, Sterling Configurator displays the corresponding components on the specified dates. We can configure a scenario where Sterling Configurator displays "Back-to-school" laptop components as configuration options for the predefined dynamic kit on September 1 and "Holiday" laptop components as configuration options on December 1. To configure this scenario, use Sterling Configurator Visual Modeler to specify start dates and end dates for option items in the model of the associated dynamic kit:

      • Back-to-school laptop components 9/01/2014 - 10/31/2014

      • Holiday laptop components 11/01/2014 - 12/31/2014

      • New Year laptop components 01/01/2015 - 02/28/2015

To preview the predefined dynamic kit on a future date in Sterling Configurator, specify the date in the Announcement date field for the predefined dynamic kit. Next, click the Configurator button in the Configurator tab.

    3. Configure components for the predefined dynamic kit and save the configuration.

    4. In the Configurator tab, refresh the predefined dynamic kit by clicking

. The Preconfigured Components table displays the components associated with the predefined dynamic kit.

Note: To delete the preconfiguration, click the Delete Preconfiguration button. The list of components is removed from the Preconfigured Components table.

    5. Click Configurable to allow shoppers to reconfigure the predefined dynamic kit.

  10. Optional: Click the Descriptive Attributes tab to work with descriptive attributes.

  11. Optional: Click the Merchandising Associations tab to work with merchandising associations.

  12. Optional: Click the Associated Assets tab to work with attachments.

  13. Optional: Click the References tab to view any merchandising associations or all sales catalog categories the kit belongs to.

  14. Optional: Click the Versions tab to
    Work with content versioning

    2. Drag the object from the search results to the open Content tab.
