Add attributes to the attribute dictionary

We can use the catalog upload feature in the Catalogs tool to add attributes with assigned values or predefined values to the Management Center attribute dictionary.

We can create new attributes within the Management Center attribute dictionary. We can assign these new attributes to catalog entries for use as defining attributes or descriptive attributes.

Procedure

  1. Determine the type of attributes to add to the attribute dictionary. We can add attributes with assigned values or predefined values.

    Option Description
Assigned value attribute Assign this type of attribute to a catalog entry for use as a descriptive attribute. The following attribute data types are supported for assigned value attributes:

    • Text (String)

    • Whole number (Integer)

    • Decimal Number (Float)

For example, the length attribute does not have any predefined values. When you assign the length attribute to a catalog entry, we must specify a value, such as 20.5.

Predefined value attribute Assign this type of attribute to a catalog entry for use as a defining or descriptive attribute. The following attribute data types are supported for predefined value attributes:

    • Text (String)

    • Whole number (Integer)

    • Decimal Number (Float)

For example, the shirtColor attribute can have predefined values of red and blue.

When you assign this attribute to a catalog entry, we can select only from these predefined values of red or blue.

  2. Add attributes to the attribute dictionary using one of the following methods:
