Create a central common repository

You can use the IBM Packaging Utility to create a common central repository for the entire organization to use when updating WebSphere Commerce Developer. This repository can contain the repository assets from Rational Application Developer, WebSphere Commerce Developer, as well as feature packs and fix packs. IBM Installation Manager clients can use this central common repository to install the entire common repository in one step.

IBM Packaging Utility is a publicly available IBM product that can be used to combine repositories of different IBM products into a central repository. Follow these steps to use the IBM Packaging Utility to create a central repository for all the development environment assets.


Procedure

  1. Download the IBM Packaging Utility installation files for the platform.

  2. Browse to the downloaded image location and run install.exe from the InstallImage_Platform folder. Follow the prompts in the installation wizard to complete the installation.

  3. Choose a host system for the central common repository.

  4. Download the following product packages to the host system:

    • Rational Application Developer v7.5.5.1 or Rational Software Architect v7.5.4

    • WebSphere Application Server Test Environment (WTE) 7.0

    • WebSphere Commerce Developer v7.0

    • The most recent WebSphere Commerce Developer fix pack supported at the site.

    • The most recent WebSphere Commerce Developer feature pack supported at the site.

  5. Extract each package to a temporary location.

    For example:

    • RAD_image_location

    • WTE_image_location

    • WCDE_image_location

    • FP1_image_location

    • FEP1_image_location

  6. Run the IBM Packaging Utility.

  7. Select Copy Packages.

  8. Select Open Repository.

  9. To add Rational Application Developer v7.5.5.1 repository to the common repository:

    1. Browse to the RAD_image_location\RAD\disk1 and select diskTag.inf.

    2. Optional: Enter a name in the Repository Name to replace the default.

    3. Click OK.

  10. To add Rational Application Developer v7.5.5.1 license repository to the common repository:

    1. Browse to the RAD_image_location\RAD_SETUP\msd\repo and select repository.config.

    2. Optional: Enter a name in the Repository Name to replace the default.

    3. Click OK.

  11. To add WebSphere Application Server Test Environment (WTE) 7.0 repository to the common repository:

    1. Browse to WTE_image_location\WAS70\disk1, and select diskTag.inf.

    2. Optional: Enter a name in the Repository Name to replace the default.

    3. Click OK.

  12. To add the remaining repositories to the common repository:

    1. Browse to the image location of the repository, for example, WCDE_image_location, and select repository.config.

    2. Optional: Enter a name in the Repository Name to replace the default.

    3. Click OK.

    Repeat these steps until you have added every repository.config from each of the remaining software packages you extracted.

  13. Click Next.

  14. Review the license agreement and click Accept.

  15. Select a local or remote directory for the central repository. Click Next.

  16. Review the summary page and click Copy to begin creating the central repository.

  17. Click Finish when the repository creation has successfully completed.


What to do next

You can now add this repository to IBM Installation Manager and install the development environment on a fresh machine in one pass.
