In this tutorial, WebSphere Commerce search is used to enable searching on new custom database tables, where they are then searched upon from the storefront. This scenario assumes the custom tables are created and might contain data. This tutorial involves adding new search schema fields, a search profile, and changing the Catalog search service to include the new information as user data in the CatalogNavigationViewType noun using the wc-business-object-mediator.xml file.

In this tutorial, newly added search fields are used in the Management Center. That is, a Ranking field is added and used as a sorting field when creating search rules. Search rules provide ways to manipulate search result ordering and ranking in starter stores, where the new Ranking field is used as a sort criteria.
