Tutorial: Installing the ESI cache monitor


To see the Edge Cache statistics using the cache monitor, install the DynaCacheEsi.ear Web application.

  1. Use the WAS Administrative console to install DynaCacheEsi.ear

    1. Start the WAS administration server.

    2. Launch the WAS Administration Console.

    3. Click Applications > Install New Application.

    4. Click Browse and locate the DynaCacheESI.ear in the WAS_installdir/installableApps directory. Click Next.

    5. Click Next on the Preparing for the application installation screen. You will receive an application security warning. Select continue.

    6. For the Select installation options screen, accept the default values and click Next.

    7. For the Map modules to servers screen, select the application server to be monitored. Select both servers from the list of available servers you can map to. Then, check the box beside the Dynamic Cache Monitor module, and click Apply. As part of the entry in the server column of the table, you should now see an additional server listed.

    8. Click Next.

    9. For the Map virtual hosts for Web modules screen, check the box beside the DynaCacheEsi Web module and select VH_demo as the virtual host that you want the cache monitor to run on.

    10. For the Summary screen, accept the default values and click Finish.

    11. Save the changes.

  2. Update your Web Server Plugin configuration file located at C:\WebSphere\AppServer\profiles\ profile\config\cells\ cell\nodes\webserver1_node\servers\webserver1.

  3. Modify the WebServerPlugin file so the ESIInvalidationMonitor property is set to true.

  4. Use the WAS Administrative console to start the cache monitor.

    1. Click Applications > Enterprise Applications.

    2. Check the box next to DynaCacheEsi, and click Start.

  5. Restart your web server and your application server.

  6. Access the Web Application at http:// hostname: virtual_host_port/cachemonitor.


The appearance of Edge Statistics indicates that the installation of the ESI application was successful.
