How do I work with file versions?
From the file summary, we can restore and download versions of a file, view the change summary of a version (with some ECM repositories), and upload a new version of a file.
Versioning can work differently depending on the Enterprise Content Management (ECM) server. For community libraries and linked libraries on IBM FileNet Content Manager, we can only have automatic versioning; we cannot add change summaries. For linked libraries on IBM Content Manager, we can have different kinds of versioning and change summaries. Different types of versioning include:
- Automatic. Automatic versioning creates a version every time you edit a file.
- Manual. Manual versioning allows you to choose to create a version.
- None. If versioning is set to none, then we are unable to create versions.
The versioning level is associated with the document type, so different documents can have different version requirements. The ECM administrator controls the version level.
Perform these steps to work with file versions:
Click a file to open its summary page and then perform the following steps as needed:
- To upload a new version of a file, click Upload a New Version.
- To display a list of available versions, click Versions and do one of the following:
- To download a previous version of the file, click Download next to the version to download.
- To restore a previous version of the file, click Restore next to the version to restore. Click OK to confirm to replace the current version of the file.
- To delete a previous version of the file, click Delete next to the version to remove, and then click OK.
