Work with deleted files
Community owners and file owners can restore or permanently remove deleted files from the Trash view. Only community owners can empty the trash.
Trash view functionality is only available in deployments using IBM FileNet Collaboration Services 2.0 with IBM FileNet Content Manager 5.2.0. In IBM Content Manager and older FileNet deployments, the View Trash option is not available in the user interface.
If we change the mind about deleting a library file, we can restore it from the Trash view provided the trash has not been emptied. We can also permanently delete files from this view. If we are a community owner, we can empty the trash when we are sure the deleted files are no longer needed.
When a file is moved to the Trash view, all sharing settings are reset, and only the file creator and community owners have access to it.
- Open the library to work with and click View Trash to open the Trash view.
- Perform the following tasks as needed:
- To permanently remove a file:
We cannot retrieve files that have been permanently deleted from the trash. Before you complete this step, be absolutely sure the file is no longer needed. You might want to download a copy to the computer as a backup copy.
- Click the down arrow next to the file name and select Delete.
- Click Delete again.
- To restore a file to the library:
- Click the down arrow next to the file name and select Restore.
When you restore a deleted file, by default, it is restored to its previous location in the library. If we try to restore a file when another file with the same name already exists in that location, an error displays and we are prompted to select another location in which to save the file. Similarly, if you try to restore a file to a location that no longer exists, we are prompted to select another location in which to save the file.
- To empty the trash, click Empty Trash.
