Use DNS procedures to locate SIP servers
The Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) can use Domain Name Server (DNS) procedures for a client to resolve a SIP Uniform Resource Identifier (URI).
WebSphere Application Server provides support for the RFC 3263 standard. This allows a SIP URI to be resolved through DNS into the IP address, port, and transport protocol of the next hop to contact.
SIP does not support use of DNS procedures for a server to send a response to a back-up client if the primary client fails.
Complete these steps to configure WAS to support the RFC 3263 standard.
Tasks
- Start WAS.
- From the administrative console, expand Servers, and click Application servers > serverName.
- Under General Properties, check the Enable locating SIP servers using DNS NAPTR records checkbox, then fill in the Primary DNS server name and Secondary DNS server name fields.
- Click Apply to save the changes.
- Restart WAS.
What to do next
Configure your DNS server in order for RFC 3263 support to work for the SIP container. The following example is a BIND db file for configuring RFC 3263 support on a DNS server.
