Configure the product repositories in Installation Manager
Access and configure the repositories that contain the files to install WebSphere Application Server v9.0 and other associated software.
We can install the product and associated software from the remote web-based repositories or from local repositories that we download or access from the physical media.
Tasks
- Access the online live repositories.
Whenever possible, install from the remote web-based repositories so that we are accessing the most up-to-date installation files.
We can specify individual repository URLs so that we see only the individual products to install, or we can connect to Passport Advantage to see all software that we are entitled to.
- If we have an IBM ID, we can install the product from the individual web-based repositories, such as the following example:
http://www.ibm.com/software/repositorymanager/com.ibm.websphere.ND.v90
This location does not contain a web page that we can access using a web browser. This is a remote web-based repository location that Installation Manager uses to access the files in this repository to install the product.
For a complete list of available repositories, see Online product repositories for WAS offerings.
- If we have a Passport Advantage ID and password, we can set the Passport Advantage preference to connect to the live repositories so that we can access all of our software without specifying individual repositories.
- Open Installation Manager.
- Open the Passport Advantage preferences page by selecting...
File > Preferences > Passport Advantage
- Select Connect to Passport Advantage to connect to the Passport Advantage repository.
The Password Required dialog box opens.
- Enter a user name and password for Passport Advantage.
- Optional: Select Save password to save the user name and password credentials.
If we do not save the user name and password credentials, we are prompted for these credentials each time we access Passport Advantage.
- Click OK to close the Password Required dialog box.
- Click OK to close the Preferences window.
For more information on setting Installation Manager preferences, see the IBM Installation Manager documentation.
- If we do not have an IBM ID and password, install the product from the product repositories on the media or local repositories.
- With the Packaging Utility, we can create and manage packages for installation repositories. We can copy multiple packages into one repository or copy multiple disks for one product into a repository. We can copy packages from Passport Advantage or a web-based repository into a local repository for example. For more information on the Packaging Utility, go to the IBM Installation Manager documentation.
- Download the files from the Passport Advantage site for local installation.
Licensed customers with a Passport Advantage ID and password can download the necessary product repositories from the Passport Advantage site.
Tip: See Download WAS from Passport Advantage Online for a list of the IBM WAS v9.0 installation images downloadable from the IBM Passport Advantage Online website and other information.
- Access the physical media for local installation.
Add the product repositories on the physical media to Installation Manager to install the product.
