Install Installation Manager
IBM Installation Manager is used to install WebSphere Application Server v9.0.
IBM Installation Manager Version 1.8.5 or later is required.
Tasks
- Download Installation Manager.
We can download the most current version of Installation Manager from the IBM Installation Manager download website.
The Installation Manager installation files are also available on the Passport Advantage site and the product media.
- Change to the location containing the Installation Manager installation files, and run one of the following commands.
- Administrative installation:
- install.exe
- Non-administrative installation:
- userinst.exe
- Group mode installation:
- ./groupinst
Group mode is not available on Windows or IBM i operating systems. Group mode is available for AIX, HPUX, Linux, Solaris. Group mode allows multiple users to use a single instance of IBM Installation Manager to manage software packages. This does not mean that two people can use the single instance of IBM Installation Manager at the same time.
If we do not install Installation Manager using group mode, we will not be able to use group mode to manage any of the products that we install later using this Installation Manager. All WAS offerings support group mode.
Change the installation location from the default location in the current user's home directory to a location accessible by all users in the group.
Before installing in group mode, set up your groups, permissions, and environment variables as described in the Group mode road maps in the IBM Installation Manager documentation.
The installer opens an Install Packages window.
- Verify the Installation Manager package is selected, and click Next.
- Accept the terms in the license agreements, and click Next.
The program creates the directory for our installation.
- Click Next.
- Review the summary information, and click Install.
- If the installation is successful, the program displays a message indicating that installation is successful.
- If the installation is not successful, click View Log File to troubleshoot the problem.
iSeries
This task applies to the Installation Manager GUI, which is not available for IBM i. For information about installing Installation Manager on IBM i, see Install Installation Manager on IBM i in the Installation Manager documentation.
- The following locations are the defaults for Installation Manager files on IBM i systems:
- Installation location: /QIBM/ProdData/InstallationManager
- Agent data location: /QIBM/UserData/InstallationManager
- Registry:/QIBM/InstallationManager/.ibm/registry/InstallationManager.dat
- Logs are located in the logs directory of Installation Manager's agent data location. For example:
/QIBM/UserData/InstallationManager/logs
The main log files are time-stamped XML files in the logs directory, and they can be viewed using any standard web browser.
