WAS v8.5 > Install and configuring the application serving environment > Install the Liberty profileInstall the Liberty profile developer tools and application-serving environment
We can install WebSphere Application Server Developer Tools for Eclipse into an existing Eclipse workbench. We can install the application-serving environment separately, or we can use the tools to install the environment for you.
We can install the Liberty profile environment or by executing a JAR file. We can also install the application-serving environment using the Installation Manager.
To install the Liberty profile developer tools requires:
- An Eclipse IDE for Java EE Developers
The current service release for both versions is sr2. This is reflected in the following download URLs.
To get the latest updates for Eclipse IDE for Java EE Developers version 3.6.2...
- Start Eclipse IDE for Java EE Developers.
- Click...
Help | Check for Updates
- Follow the prompts in the wizard to install the updates.
- A runtime environment for Java (JRE)
This can be any Java 6+ JRE. The following versions work well:
- IBM Runtime Environment for Windows, Java Technology Edition, v1.6 SR9 FP1 or later
- Oracle Java Platform Standard Edition Runtime Environment v6.0 Update 27 or later
See: IBM WAS Developer Tools for Eclipse v8.5.1 overview.
We can install the developer tools using any of the following methods:
- Find and install the remote installation files from your Eclipse workbench.
- Drag an Install icon from the Eclipse Marketplace or WASdev Community web page to your workbench. This is only available for installing the developer tools on Eclipse IDE for Java EE Developers 3.7 or later.
- Install from downloaded installation files
After we have installed the developer tools, we can (optionally) use them to install the application-serving environment.
We can also use the developer tools with an existing Liberty profile environment. For example, you might have already created the environment manually
- Install the developer tools using one of the following methods:
- Install the developer tools from a remote repository.
- Install the developer tools from downloaded installation files.
- Optional: Use the developer tools to install the application-serving environment.
If we have not yet installed the application-serving environment, use the tools to download and install it for you when you create a server for the first time.
- Optional: Install Maven Integration for Eclipse.
