Maintain the WebSphere MQ resource adapter
The WebSphere MQ resource adapter is used by all applications that perform JMS messaging with the WebSphere MQ messaging provider. The WebSphere MQ resource adapter is usually updated automatically when you apply WebSphere Application Server fix packs, but if we have previously manually updated the resource adapter you must manually update the configuration to ensure that maintenance is applied correctly.
Apply a WAS fix pack does not automatically update the version of the WebSphere MQ resource adapter used by servers on nodes where the WebSphere MQ resource adapter has previously been manually updated.
- To migrate the configuration of all servers in the cell to use the latest version of the WebSphere MQ resource adapter contained in the WAS installation, see Ensuring that servers use the latest available WebSphere MQ resource adapter maintenance level.
- If we want a specific version of the WebSphere MQ resource adapter to be installed, and the version you require is not available in a WAS fix pack, or an interim fix, see Install a specific maintenance level of the WebSphere MQ resource adapter.

- Ensuring that servers use the latest available WebSphere MQ resource adapter maintenance level
To ensure that the WebSphere MQ resource adapter is automatically updated to the latest available maintenance level when you apply WebSphere Application Server fix packs, we can configure all servers in the environment to use the latest version of the resource adapter contained in the WAS fix pack that we have applied to the installation of each node.
- Install a specific maintenance level of the WebSphere MQ resource adapter
If we require a specific version of the WebSphere MQ resource adapter to be installed and the version you require is unavailable in a WAS fix pack, or an interim fix, we can install the resource adapter using the console.
