Use the centralized installation manager to manage your environment
Use the centralized installation manager to simplify the tasks of deploying product components to your WebSphere® Application Server Network Deployment Version 6.1 cell or other server environments. You can use the centralized installation manager, an installation option of WebSphere Virtual Enterprise Version 6.1, to deploy and maintain WebSphere Virtual Enterprise, WebSphere Extended Deployment Compute Grid, and WebSphere eXtreme Scale, as well as the middleware agent.
Before you begin
You must first install the centralized installation manager repository on the deployment manager, and add one or more product components to the repository. Complete this task during the installation process of WebSphere Virtual Enterprise Version 6.1. For more information, see Installing WebSphere XD.
Alternatively, you can use the centralized installation manager repository tool to add one or more product components to the repository. You can optionally install this tool when you install WebSphere Virtual Enterprise Version 6.1 only. For more information, see Use the centralized installation manager repository tool to add products.
About this task
The centralized installation manager installs selected product components from its repository, which is located on the deployment manager, to the nodes. With this feature, you can shorten the number of steps that are required to create and manage your environments. The various tasks that you can complete by using the centralized installation manager include installing product components to target workstations, applying maintenance to server environments, monitoring submitted requests, and creating additional installation targets.
Procedure
- Install product components to one or more installation targets. See Installing packages for more information.
- Apply various types of maintenance to WebSphere XD environment, your WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment environment, or other server environments. See Downloading the Update Installer for WebSphere Application Server Version 6.1 for more information.
- Monitor your submitted requests by viewing the progress, completion status, and log files of each. See Monitor requests for more information.
- Create additional installation targets to enhance your environment, and manage any existing installation targets. See Manage installation targets for more information.
