Downloading the Update Installer for WebSphere Application Server Version 6.1
Use the Update Installer for WebSphere® Application Server Version 6.1 to install interim fixes, refresh packs, or fix packs on remote installation targets. Before you can use the centralized installation manager to apply maintenance to your installation targets, download the latest level of the Update Installer.
Before you begin
Before you can install any interim fixes and fix packs on your installation targets, the centralized installation manager repository must already contain the binaries for the Update Installer.
About this task
The Update Installer for WebSphere Application Server Version 6.1 is the tool that you use to apply maintenance to your WebSphere Extended Deployment and WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment environments. The centralized installation manager does not install maintenance on the deployment manager. Instead, use the following steps to download the Update Installer, which you can then use to apply maintenance to the deployment manager.
Procedure
- In the administrative console, click System administration > Centralized Installation Manager > Add or Remove Packages.
- Click Update Installer for WebSphere Application Server in the table that displays the list of installation packages.
- Select one or more operating systems, and click Download.
- Review the summary, and click Download to start downloading the Update Installer binaries for the selected operating systems.
You can monitor the download status of the files from the Add or Remove Packages panel after the download process begins. Click the icon to refresh the contents of the table if necessary.
What to do next
From the Available installations panel in the administrative console, use the centralized installation manager to install the Update Installer in one of two ways:
- Select Refresh pack, fix pack, or maintenance tool from the Package type list. From the Installation package list, select the specific maintenance to apply, and click Show installation targets. A list of applicable installation targets is displayed. Select one or more targets, and click Install.
The centralized installation manager then checks if the Update Installer is already installed on the installation target. If no existing installation exists, the centralized installation manager automatically selects the appropriate version of the Update Installer to install based on the version of the operating system on which WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment is installed. For example, if WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment is installed on a 32-bit operating system, then the centralized installation manager selects and installs the 32-bit version of the Update Installer.
- Select Refresh pack, fix pack, or maintenance tool from the Package type list. Select Update Installer for WebSphere Application Server V6.1 as the type of installation package, and click Show installation targets. A list of applicable installation targets on which to install the Update Installer is displayed. Select one or more targets, and click Install.
