Personalizing
Typically, portlets allow users to specify what kind of information should be displayed. For example, a weather portlet might be customized to show weather in cities the visitor frequents, and a sports portlet might be customized to show only the teams the site visitor follows. Similarly, a site using Personalization might show different news articles to managers than to regular employees, or different information to "gold" customers. In order to enable either Personalization or Portals to perform these types of functions, the content and or the users must have metadata. The personalization technology selects content based on the rules between user metadata and content metadata.
